Rift Strategy Guides – Which one?

Share

Both of our recommended guides below will include the information on the new content in the game. :) I have also checked to insure that they will both be updating (for life by the way) for the pages of updates that happened on May 10th with version 1.2 of the game.

Well, if you’ve been reading my other posts, you know that I’ve looked at some 8 Rift Strategy Guides and have only found Two that meets with all of the necessary criteria. If you want to go directly to the guide that made number one, just   CLICK HERE.

What makes a good Rift Strategy Guide?

  • First of all, it has to be accurate. I found a number of guides that were not.
  • It’s got to be updated on a regular basis (this is an evolving game, if the guide is not updated, it won’t be accurate) This is especially true given that New Content has already been added to the Game!
  • It’s got to have the best information for all aspects of play
  • The information has to be legal to use in game (I actually read one massive Rift Strategy Guide that recommended you buy gold from some affiliate site of theirs, This will get you banned! Yesh….)

After reading though all the guides I could find and spending a small fortune, I finally found one that has everything, The Rift Blueprint.

The Cons

There are not many here. I do have to say that the front page where you get the product is a bit cheesy, but it is what it says. The site also seemed a bit laggy when I first got the guide, but this may have been my connection. On later log ins, it was fine. The game is new, so all of the updates are not in yet. I list that as a con merely because some people want everything right away, but as of this writing the game has just been released for play. The price for the guide will be going up (not surprising after having gotten it).

The Pro’s

The guide includes lifetime upgrades, recommendations for souls, excellent tips for platinum tips. It includes all styles of play and for both factions (Guardian and Defiant).  Perhaps the most important aspect of this guide is that for once it lives up to the hype. It’s what he says it is.  It is one of the most complete strategy guides I’ve ever gotten and is the most complete and competent Rift Strategy Guide out there. It has some excellent info on the PvP aspects of the game not found in other guides.

I could list out all of what this guide has, but that would make for a long post and probably just waste your time. The bottom line is this. I spent money on a lot of guides, and this one is the only one that helped me and I can honestly say I got my moneys worth with. I got the guide and I’m very happy. There’s a part of me that hopes that most of the others get some different guide, this one is making easy to Pwn and I’m enjoying it immensely lol.

You can get this guide at the link below (just click the banner). You can also get it on our links page (click here for links page) along with a listing of the other guides that aren’t horrible.

One of my favorite characters to play in Rift is the Mage. With the soul variations you have a huge variety of options when it comes to builds. You’ll definitely want to depend on a great Rift Strategy Guide for information on all the variables. Since there are so many I won’t go into them here, it would easily consume more space then we have available here for this article. What I do want to give you are some general PvP strategies to use while playing the mage against other types of characters you will encounter in Rift.

PvP against the Warrior Class

Fighting against warriors as a mage can be difficult. It requires an extreme amount of awareness. The trick is to keep the warrior at a distance, if you let them get to close they can take you out very quickly. Use snares and CC abilities. If you are playing an elemental or necromancer use you summons to keep them at a distance. Kite them and use your DOT and instant abilities during cool down to kill them. You will have to wear them down over a few mins. I’ve found that the Necromancer is excellent in this area.

PvP Against the Rogue Class

Just like the warrior class you will want to kite the Rogues. They will die more quickly than the warrior, but certain builds in the rogue class can do a great deal of burst damage quickly if they get close. Use your kiting CC skills and your boosters to damage to take them out quickly.

PvP Against the Cleric Class

Your strategy for fighting a Cleric will be different depending on the build of the Cleric. If they have chosen a tank class, then treat them like you would a warrior, if they are fighting at a distance, then you will want to close on them and use your pets or fellow players to corner them where they cannot cast. Be aware that clerics can be some of the most difficult to take one on one because of the healing abilities of certain builds. (for details you will want to refer to your Rift Strategy Guide so you know what you are facing).

PvP Against Another Mage Class

Fighting another mage often turns into a nuke fest of sorts. Generally speaking the one who can do the most damage first wins. You will want to use your silence skills and interrupt your opponents casting to end up the one standing here. Use the knowledge you already have on the mage to your advantage. Like all PvP, strategy is king.

PvP in Rift
Rift is one of the more diverse games when it comes to PvP action. Unlike many of the MMO games that contain a Player vs. Player option, Rift has gone a long way to making it right. It’s much more than just running around ganking the nearest low level that you can find.
There are 3 aspects of PvP in Rift that you should be aware of, and whatever Rift Strategy Guide you choose should have information and tips on to help you out. Especially getting started.
The 3 main PvP elements are Rift Warfronts, Rift PvP Souls and The Rewards for PvP in Rift. Lets take each of these and examine them briefly so you can understand why Rift Planes of Telara differs from most MMO’s and why you will likely want a Rift Guide to go in depth on all of these options.
Rift Warfronts
Starting at level 10 you can journey to your first Warfront, the Black Garden. Warfronts are essentially an instance that allows you and a team of players to pit yourselves against the opposing faction as well as having a goal to accomplish. They are a hoot to play! Currently there are 4 different warfronts, each with different goals and limitations. Trust me, these are not only a lot of fun, but there are many aspects of this that you will absolutely want the best tips on. Without them, your are not likely to have the success you should.

Rift Pvp Souls
As you are likely aware, Each calling in Rift provides you with the ability to build a character based on Souls. Obviously the best builds and the souls in general are something that will take a great deal of experimentation without some guidance, but more importantly for this post, every calling has a special PvP Soul.

PvP Souls work much like all Souls in RIFT. Include a PvP Soul as part of a build and divide points between the three Souls as normal. The other two Souls determine your play-style, much like in a PvE build, while the PvP Soul has all the goodies you need to help your character dominate those chumps across the battlefield.
PvP Souls are available to any player with a certain amount of Favor, while Prestige Rank determines how many points you can invest in a PvP Soul tree. The more you engage in PvP combat, the more you can hone your character into the perfect engine of victory. (If you don’t know what Favor and Prestige Rank are, then maybe it’s time to take another look at that Rift Strategy Guide again).
Favor /Prestige/ Prestige Ranks
In Rift you can gain much during your PvP escapades. You gain Favor, Prestige, Prestige Rank and of course excellent spoils to the victor.
Favor is a form of curreny that can be used to purchase anything from equipment to mounts. Participation in almost any form of PvP can gain you favor. Some of the best gear is available by utilizing favor points. You will want your Rift Guide to give you tips here on what is worthwhile.
Once you reach maximum level, you can begin to earn Prestige as well as Favor. Prestige is earned much like Favor, through any PvP action. Prestige is not a currency, but a sort of “PvP XP.” You cannot buy anything with Prestige, but as you rise in Prestige you will climb through the ranks of your faction’s military. Rank has its privileges, and every new rank unlocks new rewards, such as special titles and permission to spend Favor on the most elite PvP rewards. Just as other Soul Trees rely on your level to access the highest branches, Prestige Rank determines your access to the tiers of your PvP Soul Tree.

Rift PvP Rewards
Lastly the spoils for winning in the PvP aspects of the game are great Great Drops, Plenty of Achievements. As Trion Worlds put it, you get “Plunder and Glory”. Your Guide for Rift should have some good information on what to expect.
Along with the above 3 areas, there is of course open world PvP which you are likely familiar with. I love PvP in games, it is challenging, and gives you that something extra that just PVE doesn’t have… Yes, it can be frustrating at times (Learn to laugh at yourself ;p) but this is where having an edge with a decent Rift Leving Guide can save you time and frustration in the game and leave you having more fun.

See you in the Warfronts!

Every MMO is built around one single idea – group play. The idea is that you join up with other players and take on the top level content in thegame so that you can destroy your enemies at top speed. That goes doubly so for Rift which has quite a few group moments for you to enjoy. Thereare Rifts, PvP matches and end-game instances that allow you to join up with other players and for that you need a good group.
What You’ll Be Playing
In Rift, there are three primary areas where you will need a group. Those areas include:
•    PvP – PvP comes in two forms – either world PvP or Warfronts. In world PvP, you’re on your own, but in Warfronts, you can bring otherplayers in with you and take on opponents in goal based combat. The better groups will be those that communicate effectively and build a stronglong terms strategy.
•    Rifts – Technically you can complete rifts with any players in your vicinity and they will scale to match the level and skill of yourplayers. However, if you want to be truly effective in these types of combat, you need a group with which you can freely communicate and developrapport. To do that, you need a guild with players that can join up and really push the game to its limits when a rift goes live.
•    Dungeons and Raids – There are 5 person dungeons and 10 and 20 person raids in the game that require you to put together a strongcontingent of players. Because the Soul system creates such diversity in the player makeups, your goal should be to choose players that fit
general roles like tanking, healing and damage. Each dungeon team needs one healer and one tank and should include at least one hybrid who can do anything on the field. In raids, the makeup will depend more on skill and the bosses you are facing.
Creating a Guild
Finding a few good players with which you can team up and play the game is one thing, but the best way to really take on everything Rift has to offer is to create a guild. A guild gives you a number of extra benefits including in game resources at the bank and auction house, easier chat resources, and a chance to meet up easily through guild meeting tools.
Like any MMO, your success will ultimately depend on your team’s ability to communicate and work together. Start on that now and you’ll be well ahead of your opponents every step of the way – even in the strictest and toughest PvP brackets.
As with any MMO, there are a number of issues that Rift’s dedicated players will run into. As a player of the hottest new MMO on the market, here are three things you will likely need to deal with and how you can best take care of them before they really dig into your play time.
1.    Making Platinum
Making platinum is tough at first. You’ll have a hard time coming up with the 2 pieces you need by level 20 for your first mount and the rest you’ll need by level 30 and 40 to start upgrading your gear and other items. However, with a little careful planning, you’ll be well prepared for anything the game has to throw at you starting at level 1. Make sure you choose two or even three gathering professions from the get go. This will allow you to make gold and platinum as you level without having to look for it. You can also start using the auction house to sell your drops like scrolls and the ore and plants you gather. The sooner you start loading up on the professions that will be used at level 50 the better you’ll do.
2.    Building a Good Team
A good team will be the core of any good player. You cannot be the best in Rift without joining up with fellow players who can keep pace with you. This is a multiplayer game after all. If you do not yet have any fellow players on your side, start running Rifts whenever you see one forming. These are great ways to meet new players. You can also meet new players on forums on the official rift website or on sites like the Telarapedia on Wikia. There are thousands of players who also need a good group to rely on for their weekly raiding and PvP runs – use those resources to find them.
3.    Levelling Speed
Leveling in a game like Rift is not easy. Nor is it hard though if you know where to go and when to go there. Questing should be your primary form of levelling. However, whenever you see a Rift, you should take advantage of it as soon as possible and gain the XP that it provides. PvP Warfronts and dungeons also provide XP, so there is no reason you should ever have to grind mindlessly on mobs to level up. Rift is a fantastic game and a big time competitor to games like World of Warcraft with their relatively simple gameplay style. However, if you want to be truly successful in the game, you must start establishing strategy early and be willing to work hard to meet new people, make platinum and level up fast. Do those three things and you’ll be set by level 50.

Although it is good news for the game it was with a slight disbelief that it read the following press-release from Trion Worlds:

Trion Worlds announced today that more than one million accounts have been created to date, signaling a high level of interest for the company’s first massively multiplayer online game, Rift™, which is scheduled to launch March 1st in North America, March 3rd in pan-European countries, and March 4th in the UK. The news hits just as the game’s Head Start period begins, giving pre-order customers advance playtime before servers officially open on launch day.

Launching with 33 Head Start servers, Rift will feature dedicated realms for PvP, PvE, and role-playing players. Servers are live today, coinciding with the game’s Head Start period, which lasts until the game launches next week. Find the official server list on Rift’s official forums at: http://forums.riftgame.com/showthread.php?79032-Official-Rift-Server-List!&p=1198848#post1198848

Ok, that is not 1 million pre-orders, but still. This is really unexpected and far beyond my expectation. I hereby congratulate Trion Worlds and all those involved with a successful start. Headstart itself is what can be expected when everybody wants to get in first. Long queues, but apart from that no big problems. So far so good. Now is an excellent time to get the game and get in on the head start. I will have a link to the best guides up shortly to help with your leveling.

It’s an exciting day! Those that pre-ordered Rift Planes of Telara can begin playing today. I was lucky enough to be amongst the privileged people who got a vip beta pass and have been testing the game for well over a month now. As the game developed, many guides for strategy, rift leveling, gold training and the like started to appear. Some good, some bad, some really bad lol. As a long time player of MMORPG’s I’ve learned the value of getting a hand up, especially in a new game, by using a premium training guide. Rift has already gotten over one million registered users and there is no doubt that this will be one of the most popular games out there. Now there are many types of guides. Leveling Guides, Strategy Guides, Gold Training Guides, Specific Faction Training Guides, the list goes on. Which one to get? Well, I have been purchasing and pouring through the guides as they come out and I find them. I will be posting my conclusions here along with the things you need to look for in getting a Rift Strategy guide and which ones provide the best value for your gaming dollars in Rift Planes of Telara.

Here is a trailer Vid if you’ve been living in a cave and haven’t heard of this game yet lol.
